Simple guide to ix-nay your its-zay

Fed up with pimples? You are not alone. Breaking out is worse than breaking up with your boyfriend!Diagnose yourself and Find out which category your acne is in then read on to fin your personalized treatment.

( Special thanks to my aunt who is a dermatologist. *wink wink )

MILD ACNE
You have a few noninflammatory whiteheads and blackheads on your face, usually in your t-zone area or on the sides of oyur nose.

FIX:
STEP 1: Wash your face every other night with a 2% salicylic acid wash.. Try Olay daily facials clarity foaming cleanser. The cleanser exfoliates your skin, cleaning out your pores.

STEP 2: Apply a noncomedogenic lotion. Try pond's smooth perfection over your skin daily to keep it hydrated.

STEP 3: If you still have whiteheads or blackheads after six weeks, try using a retinoid product too; it will unclog pores and help keep them clear. Ask your doctor prescription-only Differin or to try an over the counter retinol product, often found in anti aging serums. Try Neutrogena Anti wrinkle Intensive Serum. Just swipe on a pea sized before bed.

MODERATE ACNE
You have lot of whiteheads and blackheads and a few inflammatory bumps ( the red ones that are hard and painful), usually in your t zone.

FIX:
STEP 1: Follow steps 1 and 2 (plus 3 if you have blackheads) of the mild regimen.

STEP 2: To treat stubborn red bumps on top of oyur skin, apply a pea sized amount of a 5% benzoyl peroxide cream or gel over the affected area every other morning. Gradually work up to once daily so you don't dry out your skin until the bumps are gone. Benzoyl Peroxide is anti flammatory and antibacterial, so it will shrink pimples by killing the germs inside of them. WARNING: It's drying, so on't reapply more often than indicated on the directions. Hey! It also bleaches fabric, so don't wipe your hands or face on a colored towel.

SEVERE ACNE
You have whiteheads and blackheads plus cystic, inflamed bumps that feel hard like marbles and remain on your face for weeks at a time.

FIX:
Cystic acne tends to be resistant to over the counter products, so the best option for you is to see a dermatologist. In themeantime;

STEP 1: Follow step 1 an 2 of the moderate acne regimen for whiteheads and blackheads,

STEP 2: Then, to reduce inflammation on the cystic pimples, put a dab of 1% hydrocortisone cream. Try Cortald Intensive Theraphy Moisturizing Cream on the tip of a cotton swab an apply to the zip once daily. The cortisone will help reduce the redness and swelling. Apply it to the cystic pimple only and not the skin around it.

*If you've tried everything and nothing works, ask a dermatologist about Accutane.
